Airbnb is backing legislation in the NYC Council allowing it to rent out apartments in one- and two-family homes, potentially turning our homes into hotels, and our communities into transient tourist traps. This legislation would take thousands of apartments off the rental market, further deepening our housing crisis and driving up our rents.

New York City simply can’t afford to lose any more homes.

Our housing should serve the people who live here—not multi-billion-dollar tech companies and real estate speculators.

Protect Our Housing & Communities

Dear [elected official],

I am writing as a resident of your district to express my opposition to Intro 1107. This bill would allow certain homes to be offered as Airbnb rentals for tourists, which would harm our city’s housing stock and could lead to increased housing costs and a drastic change to the character of our neighborhoods. Allowing Airbnb and its lobbyists to change our city’s rules on housing would set a dangerous precedent. This bill would create a major expansion of Airbnb in neighborhoods across New York City, allowing for rentals that utilize entire homes in one and two-family buildings without the presence of any responsible party. This would prevent many homes from being used as much-needed housing and would also invite significant commercial tourist activity into our residential neighborhoods. The passage of Intro 1107 would also invite further attempts to change our housing rules for the benefit of private actors like Airbnb and housing speculators, further eroding our housing stock and the character of New York’s residential buildings and neighborhoods. I urge you to use your voice to oppose Intro 1107 and to vote “NO” if and when it comes up for a vote. Thank you for supporting your constituents and our neighborhoods.

Sincerely, [Your information here]
